Hermanus Beaches
The beaches in Hermanus are a sunworshipper's dream with soft white sands edged with rolling surf. They range from small protected coves to long expanses of sand perfect for walking, such as Grotto Beach, which stretches all the way to the mouth of the KIeinrivier lagoon and De Plaat (renowned as one of the best fishing spots). There are excellent facilities including picnic/braai areas, changerooms and a beachside restaurant.Grotto Beach was awarded Blue Flag status in Novenber 2002 for its state of pristine cleanliness. Although the major beaches have life guards during peak seasons,it is still advisable never to swim alone in isolated places. The currents can be dangerous and the sea at high tide extremely strong.
Voëlklip has lawns as well as sand and it is popular with surfers and sunbathers alike. The changerooms are old but adequate.
Kammabaai, also known as Lover's Cove, has the best waves for surfing as well as picnic spots and braai sites under the milkwoods.
Langbaai is a secluded cove at the foot of the cliffs and considered to be the 'secret' beach of Hermanus.
Schulphoek - There is a tidal pool with changerooms at the Schulphoek camping and caravan park.
Sandbaai beach - The beach is dotted with rock pools full of marine creatures and is particularly popular at low tide when swimming is safe. It is also popular for snorkelling. There are changerooms and showers.

Breakfast bay at Vermont provides a perfect setting for picnicking. Flanked by high dunes, the beach is sheltered and an ideal place for the sunbather.
The small beach at Plankhuis or Hoek van den Berg
is a safe swimming place but the beach is often covered in kelp.
The almost endless expanse of beach between Hawston and Kleinmond is a beautiful stretch of sand but swimming is hazardous. Do not risk the water unless you
are a very good swimmer and know the dangers.
Fisherhaven - Not strictly a beach but the shores of the Bot river lagoon provide swimming and picnic spots. The lagoon is a favourite with fishermen, windsurfers and waterskiers.

campers and the public.
