World's best land based whale watching spot
Sounds from the deep.
The sonar buoy - A world first. Lying in the bay off the Old Harbour wall is a yellow and red buoy connected to a hydrophone which receives the sounds produced by whales. These are transmitted back to the whale audio room in the Old Harbour Museum. The audio equipment enables visitors to view the whales and hear their calls live at the same time.
